Marty McLauchlan was an A/1c attached to the 6901st SPECOMGRU back
around 1962.along with S/Sgt Jim Williams now a retired M/Sgt. Marty was a
685, what you guys would have called machines. We were the processing end
of the information before it was sent on its way. There are several of us
who have stuck together over the years, having met up again in 2005 and
2007, in Texas at Kelly. Planning to meet up again. We are slowly meeting
our maker. Marty was one of the best. Please include him in your prayers.
Just wondering if any of you out there knew Marty, Ron Lokay, A.2c, USAFSS,
Zwibrucken, Germany
"Georgia">Hi Friends, I am sending this message
with a heavy heart. I just received an email from a man I don't
know, named John C. Harris. He said that my best friend, Martin
David McLauchlan, "Marty", passed away Monday evening. I
talked to Marty's sister-in-law and she said that he drove to the
hospital Monday night and as he walked through the ED doors he had a
massive heart attack and died on the spot. They could not revive
him.
The police had to break in his house to
get information to notify his family (brothers) in San Diego. They
brothers are flying to Chicago on Saturday to make arrangements. I
am planning on going there also. I will keep you updated.

Oh, Kathy. I am so sorry to hear this, Richard was one of the nicest,
smartest men I ever knew. November 9 was my birthday, which makes it even
sadder. I wish you and the family all my very best. I will make sure that all
the guys know, and will have him listed on the 6901 web site. God Bless.

My father, Daniel Francis Nordby Naegeli (please note
corrections from A/2c
Daniel Francis Norby. Naegeli
as listed on website - there's a "d" missing in Nordby) unfortunately
passed away at the age of 70, in July of 2008. I am SURE he would have
absolutely LOVED this website as his fondest memories were of his time in
Germany. I am sad he missed seeing the old photos and swapped stories, but
honestly, he's probably in a beer hall in Zweibrucken right now, if that's
allowed in his current station.
My father loved speaking German and Russian and I wish I knew more about his
time there, maybe from those who served with him. I do know a few things.
I know there was at least one time when a fellow member was placed, bunk and
all, outside on a cold and maybe snowy evening. I have heard endless
stories about the wonders of M-80s in commodes.
Anyway, I'm at marknaegeli@gmail.com
and I'd love to hear stories and see photos. I'll be checking back in now
and again, and I thank you for this site. Dad would have loved it, but now
I will instead.

Fred M. Stassen age 64 of Menomonie, died Friday, November 19, 2004, at
his home in the Township of Menomonie after a long illness.
Fred was born December 26, 1939 in Hinsdale, Ill. He was the son of Fred
and Martha (Trout) Robinson. Fred graduated from LaGrange High School in
Illinois and attended college at the Art Center College of Design in Los
Angeles, Calif.
Fred married Alayne Goode on October 10, 1964. After marriage, they lived
in Los Angeles and Chicago, prior to moving to Menomonie in 1973. Fred was an
accomplished photographer and award-winning filmmaker, winning the Chicago
Film Festival Award in 1980.
Fred loved the outdoors and spending time with his family and friends. He
was a passionate environmentalist.
Fred is survived by his wife, Alayne; a son, Eric (Sara) Stassen of
Charlottesville, Va.; a daughter, Michelle (John) Reed of Chippewa Falls; and
his mother, Martha Sampson of Elmwood.
Fred was fluent in German, Spanish, and Russian, and was an avid
photographer. He met his wife Alayne, an RCAF nurse stationed across town,
while at the 01st. Following their marriage, he graduated in Photography
from the Los Angeles Art Center.
Those who had the good fortune to know Fred recall him never having set
foot on base except to 1) shower and shave, 2) work and 3) wolf down the
haute cuisine served up by the chow hall sadists. He always kept an
apartment, and usually donned dark glasses, a trench coat, and multiple 35mm
SLR cameras and lenses hung over his shoulder. The spook outfit and hardware
were, he explained, the best ways to meet girls. Local Germans sized him up
as a CIA agent, and Fred gave them no reason to think otherwise. In fact, he
relished the accusation.

James
Wyllie Hinton
August 8, 1940 ~ July 30, 2008
Carmel – James Wyllie Hinton, age 67, surrounded by his family,
died peacefully at home after a long battle with lung cancer.
Jim, a California native, grew up in Beverly Hills, CA. He shared
the camaraderie of a group of young men at the local YMCA, who,
while in junior high school, became close knit and formed lasting
friendships. Initially, they called themselves the Banshees, but as
the group expanded in high school, they would become known as the
Saracens. These men still meet once a year. Following high school,
Jim joined the Air Force and served for five years as a radio
intercept analyst. He was stationed both in the Philippine Islands
and Germany. After his release from service, Jim attended Cal Poly,
San Luis Obispo, where he intended to study to become a printer. It
was there, in a piano class, that he met his soul mate and future
wife Bette. They were married in Ballard, CA on June 25, 1966. Jim
then changed majors and, following his true love of literature,
transferred to Cal State Northridge to complete a Bachelor of Arts
degree in English. He continued his education at UCLA, where he
earned a Master of Arts degree in English. Jim would then become an
English professor for the next 34 years.
Jim took his first teaching position at Triton College, located in
River Grove, Illinois. He taught there from 1969-1972. In 1972, Jim
moved his family to the Monterey Peninsula, having accepted a
teaching position in the Humanities Division at Monterey Peninsula
College. While teaching at MPC, Jim served numerous years on the
Academic Senate and served as President of the Senate from
1977-1978. During his tenure he also chaired the Humanities Division
from 1982-1985, and for one more year in 1988. Jim had an amazing
range of interests, the result of a fully generous, inquisitive,
creative nature and mind. He was not only years ahead of everyone
else with regard to computers-a genuine "pioneer" who
developed MPC's first Computer Assisted Writing Lab-but someone who
recognized the importance of Science Fiction as literature and also
developed a course in the Bible as Literature. As a professor he was
not just admired and respected but loved by staff, colleagues and
students. He retired from teaching in 2004.
Jim loved to travel with family and friends and over the past ten
years had the opportunity to visit England, Scotland, France, the
Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Mexico, Alaska, and the Southwest. A
favorite place he visited often was Hawaii. Always the avid scholar,
he thoroughly researched the history, culture, and literature of the
place of his next adventure. Reading, playing the piano, listening
to music, daily Suduko, grandkids, family and friends were the
highlights of his life. He had an extraordinary, wide, warm,
wonderful smile: one that could brighten up any room the moment he
entered it, would enliven any setting and make everyone present feel
as upbeat as he always seemed to be (no matter what!). Jim's smile
reflected a warm, continually kind, compassionate nature, and, as it
would prove, an indomitable spirit. A big man, Jim had a heart as
large as he was. He was truly a "gentle giant" capable of
generous, big bear hugs. Those alert, bright ALWAYS friendly eyes
and hearty laughter will be missed by all the lives he touched.
Jim is survived by Bette Hinton, his wife of 42 years; daughter,
Jennifer Hinton; son, Gregory Hinton; granddaughters, Gabriele Mia
Hinton and Gwyneth Rosebud Hinton; aunt, Rose Wollinger,
sister-in-law, Phyllis Putnam; nephew, David Rose and niece, Tamara
Hinton. Jim was preceded in death by both parents, John and Victoria
Hinton and his brother, Richard Hinton. The family wishes to thank
Dr. Shiffman, all the staff at Monterey Bay Oncology, the nurses and
caregivers of Hospice of Central Coast, and his private caregiver.
Those who wish to honor his memory are invited to make a
contribution to the Hospice of Central Coast or the place of their
choice. The family has held its own private service.
